Letter to the Editor

THE AUSTRIAN CLINTON

Bruce —

Though liberals and professional Democrats are whining about the results of the recall, in reality, the know-nothing jocks, apolitical starfuckers and members of Team Republican just elected the most liberal governor since Jerry Brown slimed his way into office. Unfortunately, dimwits on the Left and those in Team Democrat seem to think that to be a liberal or a Democrat means being in the service of the State Employee's unions, the teacher's guilds, and anyone else who are attached lockjaw to the state's financial teet. Forget the fact that Gray Davis is an enemy of the poor, seems to get kicks from incarcerating as many people as constitutionally possible, and is, as you point out, likely the most corrupt governor in the state's sordid history. He is a Democrat therefore he must be Our Guy. Yeah, right.

Anyone who looks at Gov-elect Arnold's stated position/actions on regarding abortion, gay rights, Hollywood, the corporate economy, marital infidelity, and sexual assault will see someone who stands eye to eye with Bill Clinton. So, Dems: What's the fuss? You have a corporate, sexual libertine in California's highest office. I mean, you folks voted for Clinton, didn't you? Well, now you have his Austrian brother as governor.

You are right, Bruce, in taking the duopoly to task for pooh-poohing the recall. Reading the statements of the 100+ candidates, I found more good ideas on state financing, marijuana prohibition, the environment, gun control, the drug war, public investment, the energy crisis, campaign financing, lobbyists and political influence, and many other issues in the "fringe" than I did in the speeches and debates of the major party candidates. Really, I do not remember an election where there were so many different ideas — good ideas — being bandied about. The outsiders — many anti-Team Democrat/Republican alienated by big party politics — were much more interesting and intellectually stimulating than Buffoon Bustamante, the Austrian Clinton, and the rest of the hacks. And notice that no major candidate came out against medical marijuana. Why? Because virtually every member of the "fringe" was for it. The "fringe" also made it possible for Camejo and Huffington to participate in the debates. Without the 100+ outsiders, the liberals Camejo and Huffington would have been frozen out of the debates. We would have been told that they were not credible candidates and therefore did not deserve a public hearing. Any small "d" democrat should be praising the wealth of ideas and the number of people interested in serving as governor, while condemning the corportate media's refusal to entertain anyone but those they themselves anoint as legit.

All in all, I think this recall election was a success. It rid us of a corrupt hack and ruined any chance he might have had at "serving" us in Congress or as President. (Remember the talk a few years ago about President Gray?) We actually got someone in office more liberal than the person who preceeded him. The Gov-elect has too many restraints — Dem controlled legislature, his history of groping, Bush 2004 campaign — to do anything extreme or would alienate voters. And perhaps, a precedent was set that will finally get liberals like Camejo into the debate. At the very least, we are in for some interesting times.

Best,
Scott Soriano
Sacramento

PS: The Gregory Favre that you mentioned in your Election Notes is the former editor of the Sacramento Bee.

During the fellow of journalistic values' reign at the Bee, he developed a close friendship with his tennis partner, mega-developer/Democrat kingmaker Angelo Tsakopoulos. Under Favre, the Bee ceased to report on Tsakopoulos's rape of the county and downplayed all of the developer's criminal acts — developing on land protected by the Endangered Species Act. Tsakopoulos's deep political pockets and favors he gained from Clinton and others as a result were also ignored until the city's indy press exposed his scams. When Favre was pushed out of the Bee, not only did the city's environmental community cheer, the Bee's rank and file — who regarded Favre as a corrupt hack — celebrated. That Favre has anything to do with "journalistic values" in some institute of "higher" education, just shows how much of a sham journalism school is.
