My Way or the Highway

Donnie and Nancy Pollard were traveling southbound on Highway One near Road 409 between Fort Bragg and Mendocino. It was 10:55pm on Friday night, April 30th. Mrs. Pollard was driving.

The couple was arguing about which direction they ought to be going. Mrs. Pollard was determined to stay southbound for Mendocino. Mr. Pollard was just as determined to reverse course and head north for Fort Bragg.

Failing to persuade Mrs. Pollard to turn around, Mr. Pollard leaped from the couple's '96 Mazda while it was moving at an estimated 55 miles per hour.

Mr. Pollard sustained major injuries, for which he is being treated at Coast Hospital. But Mrs. Pollard turned around, and the CHP arrested her for driving drunk.
