Holidays. As a kid I don't remember Easter being such a big deal. Maybe it's because all I had to do was wake up in the morning and all that was required was I find the eggs and chocolate. As a parent, it's different. For instance , this Easter I had to work from 8am-10am. I know, lame, right? I woke up early but the kid was still passed out. I couldn't bring myself to wake him. I left instructions to take lots of photos and drove to work.
By the time I got home, the chocolate overload was in full-force. He was in the rocker, drooling. Naw, it wasn't that bad. We got suited up and readied for the Egg Hunt at the Mac House in Mendocino. We like to go every year. And this year, there was a bouncy house and since it was not raining, there was outside egg-seeking.
The little man was excited. His dad was there. I was there. We all got to support him while he stockpiled as many plastic eggs as possible. He discovered the plastic ones are the ones with the candy and so the real eggs were shunned.
All in all, it was fun. Always nice to have an excuse to dress up. We don't go to church but we revere newness, for life, for the cycles. Easter is a reminder that the winter is passed and that summer is upon us. Meanwhile, let's enjoy the fruits of the succulent season.
