THE TRIAL of MariCruz Alverez-Carrillo, 22, the Fort Bragg woman who attacked 18-year-old Alissa Colberg, also of Fort Bragg with a hatchet last January, got underway in Ukiah last week. The fight featuring the hatchet was a gang affair.

A CALL to Local Artists The Mendocino County Youth Project is soliciting donations of artwork from Mendocino County artists to benefit the Youth Project’s Transitional Living Program. DUE DATE FOR SUBMISSIONS IS FEBRUARY 3RD. This program benefits homeless young adults and their children. Funds raised are used to assist with extra expenses. For example, recently a resident with special needs who is pregnant with a special needs child has been transported at least weekly to San Francisco for medical treatment, far exceeding our budget for mileage for the year. The artwork donated will be part of our annual fundraising art auction. We would appreciate the honor of including your most precious gift, your personal expression through art. Event sponsors include Savings Bank of Mendocino County, Mendo-Lake Credit Union, Northwest Insurance, and Steve’s Auto Center. This year’s event will feature artwork by students and other local artists from all reaches of the county. Many beautiful pieces of artwork will be for silent auction or sale starting at 5:30 pm on Friday, March 2nd. Our young artists will be honored that evening. Their art will be proudly displayed while hors d’oeuvres are served. The art sale will continue Saturday evening March 3rd starting at 6 pm. It will feature a taco bar dinner, including a live auction conducted by Spencer Brewer. Besides art, among the noteworthy items to be included will be a dinner for four at the County Jail prepared by our own Mendocino County Sheriff Tom Allman, a house concert by local pianist Spencer Brewer, and an energy audit from Apperson Energy Management. The show will be held at the Saturday Afternoon Club in Ukiah Please consider donating your work to help the needy homeless young adults and their children of our county!
