ANDERSON VALLEY, THEN & NOW

History, Community & Good Times

Hello friends. Just one of those bi-annual messages (the other is for Veterans Day) I send out suggesting you might enjoy a Valley event I am involved with. Please forgive my self-indulgence. The annual Anderson Valley Historical Society meeting will be held at the Anderson Valley Grange on Sunday, March 23, 2014. The Program will begin at 1:30pm, that's next Sunday! Along with Wes Smoot, a longtime member of the AV Historical Society and a lifetime resident of Anderson Valley, I will be hosting the presentation of “Anderson Valley — Then & Now.” This is the working title of a book to be published in the next few months that Wes and myself, a relatively recent addition to the Historical Society Board and someone with a keen interest in history and this community, have teamed up to author. All profits from sales of the eventual book (assuming we sell some!) will benefit the AV Historical Society. The book features photographs of local buildings and homes that were built prior to World War II, all the way back to the 1850s, juxtaposed with recent pictures taken by Wes and myself, along with a brief history of each location. For this event, we will be showing the pictures on the big screen at The Grange and will share stories of a select number of these locations. Refreshments and snacks will be available. We hope to see you there, Kind regards and cheers, Steve Sparks. (“History is the ship carrying living memories into the future.” — Stephen Spender)
