(April 14, 2014) -Winesong 2014 (www.winesong.org) is pleased to announce that Joseph F. Harbison, III and Patricia A. Harbison are this year's Honorary Chairs. Joe, an AV-rated attorney in Martindale-Hubble, and Certified Specialist in Civil Trial Advocacy (who has argued before the U.S. Supreme Court), and wife Pat, a Mentor Teacher and Education Specialist in Gifted and Talented Education, are prominent Oakville owners of Harbison Estate Wines. As avid wine collectors and serious gourmets, they have traveled the world to wine and dine in the most remarkable restaurants and locals. "We've bought our vacations at Winesong - France, St. Barts, etc. - also purchased some great dinners and LOTS of wine!" enthused Pat and Joe. "We first attended in Winesong's second or third year. It became a great social event for a big group of our wine collector and foodie friends from San Francisco, Napa and Sacramento who would gather together each year as the event became more and more successful. We like the local involvement from the community and also knowing where the money goes: ambulance, x-ray, mammography, etc.!" When purchasing outpaced their consumption and their cellar approached 35,000 bottles, they began donating wine lots to various children's charities throughout the United States. Soon, they began purchasing Oakville fruit, and in 1998 released their first eponymous wine, which was bottled in large format bottles and donated to children's charities to grant wishes, provide shelter, education, medical care, art experiences, athletics, and other worthwhile causes that were needed. Joe is currently the Chair of the Family Winemakers of California, and also serves on the Napa Valley Vintners Grant Review Committee, which is charged with donating the $110 million dollars raised-to-date from Auction Napa Valley. Together, Pat and Joe co-chaired the 2012 Saturday Auction Napa Valley events, raising $8.6 million dollars. Joe and Pat's Harbison Family Foundation founded and ran the Winter Wine and Food Fest for over 20 years, which benefitted the Make-a-Wish Foundation of Northeastern California and Northern Nevada located in Sacramento. Their efforts helped raise $10 million dollars to provide wishes for children with life-threatening medical conditions. The couple has been participating in Winesong for 25 years. Winesong looks to continue its reputation as the premiere sure-to-sell-out charitable wine event on the trend setting Mendocino Coast. Starting on Friday, September 5, Winesong will offer guests an insider's view of Anderson Valley Pinot Noir as Winesong and AVWA (Anderson Valley Winegrowers Association) present "A Pinot Noir Celebration" hosted by Little River Inn. On Saturday, September 6, guests can stroll through the captivating Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens while enjoying a marvelous array of wine and food from 100 highly acclaimed wineries and 50 top-notch Northern California restaurants. The magnificent wine celebration continues on into the Auction Tents for the always-entertaining Live and Silent Auctions. The New York Times recently released its annual "Places to Visit" list, with Mendocino County's North Coast taking the No. 3 spot out of 52 destinations. With its dramatic coastal setting Mendocino is quickly becoming a top wine country getaway. Last year's event raised over $500,000 to benefit the Mendocino Coast Hospital Foundation. Highlights of the 2013 auction included the "fund a need" lot-specifically to be used to purchase a new ambulance-brought in $116,000 in a matter of minutes.
