Conifer Day 2014

Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens is being inaugurated as an American Conifer Society Reference Garden, and we're celebrating with a day of presentations, tours, information, specialty plant sales, and more on May 3 from 9:00am to 5:00pm.

Learn from experts about conifers and the role they can play in developing a beautiful garden. Nationally renowned dwarf conifer expert and landscape designer Brent Markus, of Rare Tree Nursery in Silverton, Oregon, will be the keynote speaker. Other speakers will share information about growing conifers and the specialty plants that complement conifers.

In addition, tours of the Gardens will be given and specialty nurseries will be represented, offering rare and unusual conifer companion plants for sale. A special lunch will be available at Rhody’s Garden Café.

As one of only two ACS Reference Gardens in California and with a mild maritime climate that allows the growing of numerous types of dwarf and cultivar conifers, the Botanical Gardens is in a unique position to offer conservation and educational opportunities, and is honored to partner with ACS.

An ACS Reference Garden is a “dedicated garden that highlights the beauty, diversity, and utility of conifers in the landscape.” (conifersociety.org)

This event is free to Botanical Gardens’ and American Conifer Society members. A 10% discount will be offered to anyone joining the Gardens or the American Conifer Society on the day of the event.
