ORIGINAL PRESS RELEASE:
On 05-25-2014 at 7:14 AM the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office was contacted after a motorist found a deceased female adult laying in the roadway in the 78000 block of Hopper Lane in Covelo, California.
The motorist reported the female adult's body appeared to have a gunshot wound to the torso.
Mendocino County Sheriff's Office Deputies responded to the scene and confirmed the presence of the deceased female adult who appeared to have multiple gunshot wounds to her body.
Sheriff's Detectives were summoned to the scene and began a follow up investigation resulting in the female adult being identified as Rosalena Bell Rodriguez of Covelo, California.
A forensic autopsy has been tentatively scheduled for 05-27-2014 and Sheriff's Detectives are continuing their investigation into incident.

UPDATED PRESS RELEASE:
On 05-27-2014 the preliminary results of the forensic autopsy showed Rosalena Belle Rodriguez sustained multiple gunshot wounds and a
BA/Toxicology analysis is pending.
Mendocino County Sheriff's Detectives continued their investigation into the murder of Rodriguez with assistance from the Mendocino County District Attorney's Office.
On 05-28-2014 at approximately 11:00 PM Sheriff's Detectives contacted Nicole Hawkins (28-years-old) at a residence located on Creekside Drive in Willits, California.
During the contact Hawkins was arrested for an open charge of elder abuse and probation violation in regards to an unrelated incident. Hawkins was booked into the Mendocino County Jail to be held in lieu of $25,000.00 bail.
On 05-29-2014 at approximately 1:00 AM Sheriff's Detectives contacted Jeremy Jason Freeman-Britton (21-years-old) and Sidney Lewis Freeman (23-years-old) at a residence in the 100 block of Yuki Street in Covelo, California.
During the contact Jeremy Jason Freeman-Britton was arrested on an active Lake County felony arrest warrant for a charge of criminal threats in regards to an unrelated incident.
During the contact Sidney Lewis Freeman was arrested on an active Mendocino County misdemeanor arrest warrant for a charge of violation of probation.
After the arrests were made Sheriff's Detectives established probable cause to arrest Jeremy Jason Freeman-Britton and Sidney Lewis Freeman for the murder of Rodriguez.
Both were booked into the Mendocino County Jail to be held on a No Bail status.
On 05-29-2014 at approximately 1200 hours the Mendocino County District Attorney's Office decided not to file a murder charge on Sidney Lewis Freeman after a review of the evidence collected by investigators to date.
Sheriff’s Detectives are continuing investigations and no further information will be released at this time due to the ongoing investigation.
