I have to admit that I too journeyed to that far-away mountain top, seeking enlightenment with a master.

Upon arrival I took the prevailing oath of poverty, chastity, and silence. The only exception to my monastic life being that once every 10 years I could utter 2 words of my choosing in the presence of his holiness.

After my first 10 years I simply announced:

    “Bed hard.”

The master made no perceptible response.

Another ascetic 10 years crept by, and I observed:

    “Food bad.”

    No response.

10 more years of this and I’d had it:

    “I quit.”

    Finally the master responded.

“I am not surprised, for you have done nothing but complain ever since you got here.”
